Venous cryotherapy

What is venous cryotherapy?

Whether we talk about freezing fat-cells in the abdominal area, or treating facial wrinkles, or even eliminating varicose veins, cryotherapy is revolutionizing modern surgical intervention practices.

Venous cryotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure through which unwanted tissues are removed from the body through controlled freezing and thawing processes. This is similar to the surgical intervention aimed at eliminating varicose veins but presents far fewer probabilities to develop complications.

Instructions for venous cryotherapy

Venous cryotherapy is recommended for eliminating varicose veins partially or totally through the means of a surgical procedure. This treatment is a viable alternative to the traditional surgical methods of eliminating varicose veins. Venous cryotherapy is recommended for treating varicose ulcers.

Venous cryotherapy procedure

During the cryotherapy process unwanted tissues can be eliminated from the body by a controlled process of freezing and thawing. Thus a minimally invasive intervention is able to contribute to the total elimination of the varicose veins. In most interventions liquid nitrogen is used to reduce the temperature of the tissue to -85 degrees Celsius. Cryotherapy uses a set of special needles and chemical substances to treat the varicose veins locally. The procedure ensures the rapid reduction of the vein’s swelling followed by its re-absorption by the body. Venous cryotherapy requires a single small incision.

This procedure can be used as an alternative to the traditional surgical interventions of eliminating varicose veins. One of the additional benefits of the procedure is the lack of supplementary incisions.

The advantages of venous cryotherapy

  • The time required for recovery is short.
  • Discomfort felt during and after the intervention is minimal.
  • The feeling of pain is extremely small due to the fact that this is a minimally invasive procedure.
  • The procedure is able to provide a high precision intervention for eliminating varices.
  • The skin tolerates this intervention extremely well, and due to the fact that there is no need to create a large incision as in the case of traditional varicose vain elimination surgeries, the aesthetic effect is evident.
  • The procedure is characterized by a lack of subsequent bleeding and post-op complications, which may appear with the use of other elimination techniques.
  • The risk of scarring is minimal.
  • The ease of handling the liquid nitrogen is an added benefit of this intervention.
  • Cryotherapy is the most advanced form of mechanic elimination of the varicose veins.
  • The anesthetic applied in this procedure is a local one.

Post-op recovery

After undergoing venous cryotherapy patients are not required to stay in the hospital. This is mainly due to the fact that the elimination of the varicose veins has a minimal effect on the surrounding areas of the intervention. The intervention does not result in getting visible scars, as these barely reach to be 2-3 mm wide.

The cryotherapy process may result in locally experiencing redness and swelling. This is entirely natural and the discomfort that appears can be diminished by applying the prescribed medicine.

The cryotherapeutic method of eliminating varicose veins is preferred to the traditional method of stripping due to a lower rate of possible complications and better cosmetic results.
